Shooting an Elephant

Enemy means a hostile force, a person in opposition.
The British and the Burmese were enemies of each other.
The British were a ‘hostile’ force for the Burmese people as the British invaded their land, forced everyone to follow their system of law and treated all the natives as slaves. From Orwell’s point of view, the British and the Burmese people were his enemies. The natives often insulted him whenever they got an opportunity even when the author mentioned that he sympathized with the Burmese. Even though Orwell was part of the British police he was against imperialism and understood why the Burmese disrespected their rulers.
In the story Orwell describes how he was ‘oppressed’ by the rulers and subsequently by the Burmese when the author had to kill the elephant even when he did not want to carry out the act. Orwell made a point that he did not want to come out looking like a fool and therefore had to shoot the elephant. Orwell said “when a white man turns tyrant it is his own freedom that he destroys”. The Burmese wanted so as well because that was what everyone expected him to do. In the story the elephant depicts the role of the British rule in Burma. It was uncontrollable, killed people and destroyed their land. Orwell saw that for all great things there is an end and it can come anytime. Just like the elephant died painfully the British might suffer the same fate. The writer was stuck with his decision and with the expectations of the people and the rulers.

SEHRI TIME

Ting ting rring ring ting ting (Alarm clock) “AGRH is it 4:30 already? I can’t believe it.” My hand dragged out to the side table to switch off the alarm. In a weak attempt, I rolled out of my bed and entered the bathroom. I quickly splashed some water on my face and zoomed into the kitchen.
“What... isn’t this girl out of bed yet? (Scream) AAYESHAAAAAAAAAAAA. Get out of bed you sleep machine and be in the kitchen in five minutes.” I light the burners of the stove and start laying out the pans and pots on it.
“Swish” the paratha sizzled on the pan as I banged the kettle on the other burner and quickly turned to grab the omelet from the slab and toppled it into the frying pan.
“Meow, meow”, “Max and Coco (the kittens) don’t even try to get on my nerves. Thank God, you are here Ayesha give the kittens some food and hurry up and set up the table.” I yelled.
Ayesha crawled into the kitchen yawning away. “Okay I have two more parathas cook and make tea can you please check if your father is awake yet?”
“Okay I will do that” Ayesha murmured.
“Everything needs to be told, again she’s lost somewhere.” (Scream) AYESHAAAAAAAAAAAA. “Yes” came a voice from near by. “Be quick and start having your breakfast or else you will be stuffing the food in your mouth which will make you sick.”
By now I can feel the sweat pour down from my forehead like a waterfall and it feels like I’m turning into a heater. “Phat”, the last paratha is done milk in the milk pot, the omelet on the dinning table and the tea is ready. “Thank God everything is finally ready.”
I head over to the table and pour some tea for my self and watch my husband and my daughter intently have their meal. Finally we hear the voice of the azan and I tirelessly I pick up my self and go to offer my prayers.

An insight

Hello everyone,

My name is Ayesha Siddiqui. I did my schooling from Karachi High School and my Intermediate from St. Joseph's College. At present, I'm taking the B.S in Media sciences course at Szabist.

I'm an out going person and very easy to get along with. People with great humor interest me. In my free time I mostly hang around with my friends. Shopping is another of my favourite things to do. I love to travel, Paris is my favourite city (Uhhmmm i might write something on that some time soon).

Moreover, I have two adorable kittens, Max and Coco. They are seven months old now and I can't imagine my life without them.

Other then that my family consists of my parents, myself and my kittens. I'm lucky enough to have two best friends and they have been with me even before I was old enough to remember.

Anyways, I think I've written quite a bit about myself and should take a leave.
